Skin-care center to open in Stamford’s Harbor Point

September 10, 2019

STAMFORD — A Greenwich dermatologist plans to open a treatment center early next year in Stamford’s South End, an establishment that would represent the first health care tenant on the street level of Harbor Point Road.

“SkinLab,” a collaboration with skincare brand Skinceuticals, would offer “express cosmetic treatments.” It will fill a vacancy last occupied by a coffee shop at 24 Harbor Point Road and join a waterfront street known for its restaurants. Dr. Kim Nichols is set to launch the center in February.

SkinLab will complement the Nichols-founded NicholsMD of Greenwich practice, at 50 Old Point Road in central Greenwich, that “provides patients with cosmetic treatments and trains other dermatologists and plastic surgeons from across the country in the highest standards or art and ethics on how to administer injectables,” according to the NicholsMD of Greenwich website.

A Harvard and New York University-trained and board-certified dermatologist, Nichols practiced in New York City for seven years before founding NicholsMD of Greenwich in 2013.

Greenwich resident Nichols has appeared on TV programs including “The Dr. Oz Show” and has been featured regularly in health-and-beauty magazines, including Women’s Health.

Skin Lab will joins a bustling dining row on Harbor Point Road that includes the Bareburger, Fortina, Mexicue, Patisserie Salzburg and Sign of the Whale restaurants and the local franchise of the paint-and-sip chain Pinot’s Palette.

Patisserie Salzburg was the most-recent arrival among that group, debuting last November.

“I had a great experience being in Stamford for 25 years” with a previous restaurant, Salzburg owner Par Shakiban said in an interview shortly after the opening. “I wanted to continue my presence and bring in a different concept that would satisfy the general need of the area.”

There are two street-level vacancies on the street — one at 18 Harbor Point, the former home of a World of Beer establishment, and another at 14 Harbor Point Road, where the seafood-focused Saltbar closed earlier this year.

“Unfortunately, Saltbar has closed, but BLT is actively marketing the space and seeking a great new user,” said Ted Ferrarone, chief operating officer of Building Land and Technology, the developer and main landlord at Harbor Point.

“We have a thriving restaurant scene at Harbor Point and believe this availability offers a tremendous opportunity for the right restaurant operator with the right concept that can make the most of this amazing waterfront location,” he said.
